Applied Value Group (AVG) are a boutique operations consultancy, operating primarily in the North American and Scandinavian markets.
Recruitment challenges
During a rapid period of growth, AVG were struggling to find adequate numbers of top-tier candidates. These candidates needed to be engineering graduates from leading universities, who had also gained strong experience of operations improvement projects within consulting.
This was especially challenging in New York as most operations consultancies (and therefore most prospective candidates) are based in cities outside of New York.

Working with AVG
We’ve worked with AVG in 2 ways:
- Engaging on specific searches when the need arises (for example, when they needed to hire multiple ‘Consultant’ level candidates).
- Introducing them to senior leaders within the industry who are looking to move, where we (as their external talent partners) saw unique synergistic opportunities.
AVGs work is often sold at short notice, and so hiring needs come with short turnaround times. As such, we have secured candidates for them in as little as two weeks from initial engagement.
One ongoing challenge is the lack of ‘pure’ operations consultancies based in New York. In tackling this Tarka has supported AVG in identifying similar boutique consultancies around the country to themselves from which to hire.
Moreover, we have identified top performing candidates from other firms who were willing to relocate to NYC.
